Hard to believe but before you know it NaNoWriMo will be here. So, are you going to participate in NaNoWriMo this November? Why or why not? Have you participated in years past? Has this influenced whether you will be participating in NaNoWriMo this year?

I have heard good things about NaNoWriMo as though the process of a lot of people writing at the same time within a prescribed deadline found the support and the kick in the butt to do what they had trouble doing at other times.
Not my cup of tea, though. I don't understand the need for speed, to produce a lot of words in a short time period. In my universe, greatly influenced by high school and college English class discussions about the time it took the old masters to do what they did, novels are works of art that meet the requirements of my life and my muse, and they may often take many months or many years to create. So personally, I don't really understand NaNoWriMo at all, but if it works for others, more power to them.

My friends didn't like what the pressure of NaNo did to me, so I doubt I'll participate this year. I want to enjoy my writing and I couldn't under those circumstances. I would much rather set my own goals in a manageable timeframe than force myself to write every day.
